These days, it seems like fewer households have dental insurance coverage. Unless a policy is supplied by an employer, many individuals and families tend not to have any sort of dental insurance. Unfortunately, many dental procedures tend to be quite expensive. You’ll find that paying for braces or orthodontics can drain the bank quickly. Coverage does exist for both children and adults. You simply need to find the right policy for your needs.
Coverage for Braces
You may not know this, but the ACA does not require today’s insurance companies to offer dental insurance. There are now more adults seeking orthodontia than in the past, and yet, many insurance companies are lacking in this aspect. As such, finding a company that offers dental coverage is like finding a needle in a haystack.
Braces work, though. They are worth undergoing the procedure for. However, they can be quite expensive, too; especially without coverage. Braces can significantly improve your child’s ability to chew, talk, and even breathe at times.
With most dental insurance policies, orthodontics is covered for treatment, but not for cosmetic reasons.
Plans Covering Orthodontics
If you perform some rudimentary research, you’ll find that most individual and family dental insurance plans cover braces and orthodontics. For an employer-sponsored policy, dental is often optional. If you discover your current policy does not cover orthodontics, you may wish to find a supplemental policy to handle the missing coverage.
Still, most private policies can include dental, which would include:
- Orthodontic Treatment
- Pre- and post-orthodontic treatments
However, not all stand-alone plans include braces. You’ll want to confirm the procedure with the insurance company before purchasing a policy.
