Every Marketplace health insurance plan available today is designed to cover certain essentials. The top three benefits include coverage for essential health benefits, pre-existing conditions, and preventative care. You won’t find a plan without these three factors included.
Essential Health Benefits
Essential health benefits are your basic form of health care. They include doctor’s visits, prescription medication, hospitalizations, pregnancy, and more.
Thankfully, these benefits are all covered by Marketplace plans. The coverage you receive for each, however, depends on your plan.
Pre-Existing Condition Coverage
Thanks to recent regulations and laws, pre-existing conditions are covered under all Marketplace insurance policies. An insurance provider is unable to deny you coverage due to a prior medical condition.
For example, if you are pregnant when you apply for insurance, the insurance company cannot deny you coverage because you are pregnant. Furthermore, they cannot charge you more for being pregnant and acquiring a policy with them.
Preventative Health Care
Lastly, all Marketplace plans now cover preventative health care. The extent depends on your specific policy and metal level (Bronze, Silver, or Gold). Preventative health care coverage includes shots and screening tests, which are generally free if you visit a doctor included in your plan’s network.
Then, there are three sets of free preventative services for adults, women, and children. These include, but are not limited to, blood pressure screenings, depression screenings, diet counseling, alcohol counseling, hepatitis B and C screening, immunization vaccines, HIV screenings, and STD prevention counseling.
It’s important to note that many of today’s top insurance plans also include a number of other advantages. For instance, you might find an affordable policy that includes vision, dental, or medical management programs for specific conditions. Shop around!
